DAX VALUES: DAX Virtual Table Series

DAX VALUES: DAX Virtual Table Series

This is the first video in a 6-part series on Virtual Table functions within the Power BI Desktop using DAX. In this video, I demonstrate how the VALUES function works. When a column name is given, the Values function returns a single column table of unique values. When a table name is given, returns a table with the same columns and all the rows of the table (including duplicates) with the additional blank row if present.

Virtual tables can be used as a filter or to add filter context to a calculation. It can be based on any context that you placed them into them and they will also allow you to internally iterate logic through them.

Typically, virtual tables are useful when you use them with iterating functions (X functions and Filter). When using virtual table, you have to understand “Filter context” and how the combination of these DAX measures all work together within that filter context.
